Shalom From Lusaka, Zambia.

Here is our August newsletter. It has been delayed due to events happening in Zambia. We have just buried our president Dr. Levy Mwanawasa and are still in the period of national mourning.

On August 19th 2008 Zambia lost her president  Dr. Levy Mwanawasa. As a country we have been mourning our hard working president who will be remembered mostly for fighting corruption in this country were 86% live in poverty. He will also be remembered for trying to improve the economy by wooing many foreign investors and opening huge copper mines & encouraging agriculture.

Do kindly pray for Zambia that there won't  be any infighting or political instability as is the trend in Africa whenever there is a power vacuum.

Our trip to Chipata (eastern Zambia) where I spoke to almost 100 Christian church leaders was a great success. Chipata is a stronghold for Islam in Zambia. There are more mosques than churches there. And it is in this province that bibles were being bought and being destroyed by Muslims. Anti-semitism is rife. Many leaders need education and support. Among the many lessons taught were Hebriac roots of the Christian faith.

I have come to learn that there are several ways of preaching the good news but all have the same results, the results being saved souls and prosperous lives.

"and have our people learn to apply themselves to doing good deeds that meet genuine needs, so that they may not be unproductive." Titus 3:14

We at the Zambia Messianic Fellowship have been on the cutting edge of trying to transform communities around us. We have encouraged hard work and using scripture fought the evil cycle of hopelessness brought about by poverty. We have worked with hundreds of peasant farmers and seen how many of them have conquered hunger through hard work.

In a few weeks we will be hosting an irrigational expert from Israel who is coming to provide believers for free the rare irrigation know how. Zambia has abundant water resources about 45% of all waters in southern Africa are in Zambia. But most peasant farmers can't utilize the water due to lack of skill and tools. As a result most use rain water to grow their crops and when the rain water becomes erratic then there is a food shortage.

Adam Abrahamson is coming from Israel and will be working with farmers in different parts of the country. Please do pray for this project. Pray that the overpowering lack of knowhow will be broken and that more food will be grown and less children will go without food and above all that many will come to faith as a result of this project. We have seen it in the past when an imam come to faith through such works. We believe in changing one life at a time until an entire community is influenced.

We are still looking for more sponsors to help build the Jerome Fleischer Orphanage. The perimeter wall has been completed. Thousands of orphaned  children live on the streets in  Zambia. There are over 30 million orphans in sub-Sahara Africa. For us who are believers we know that true and pure religion involves taking care of orphans and widows (James 1:27). G-d has brought 123 orphans under our care and our prayer is to house them too. Apart from giving them school and food we plan to give them a roof over their heads. Kindly pray how you can partner with us to make this a reality. We plan to build in four phases and each phase will cost $50,000.
